It is essential to ready ourselves physically and mentally, before doing this meditation-prayer. Such readying is called sankalpa. The act of sankalpa consists of doing physical and mental exercises that are special to the practice of theatre, and the adopting of the aramandi-vaishakhasthana posture, so as to stretch and straighten the spinal column and to purify and set right our breathing, all leading to a calming of the mind and soul. Without such a sankalpa, what one does will only be a caricature of the meditation-prayer and not the real thing.
