Shantha Sinha, founder of the M V Foundation and first Chairperson of the National Commission on Protection of Child Rights, speaks about democracy in India and the importance of independent institutions in propagating the value of democracy with social justice. She talks passionately about how India’s freedom movement was one of the greatest revolutions and how India’s constitution borrowed from the Freedom Movement to promote the values of secularism, equality, social justice, freedom and fraternity. She emphasises the role of social movements as sites of contestations to strengthen democracy.
