Prof. Rohit Dhankar from Azim Premji University is also known for founding Digantar, an NGO in Jaipur that has been engaging with the idea of philosophy of education. In this talk, he explores the idea of education through examining the relationship between reason, freedom, human dignity and education. He argues for going beyond the economic conception of education as a public good and links it to the need for self-development, drawing from Immaneul Kant’s argument about the duty of humans to develop one’s own talents. The session was chaired by Prof. Shyam Menon, Vice Chancellor, BML Munjal University (BMU), Gurgaon and former Vice Chancellor of Dr BR Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD).
